In August 2002, I, (Kirstie) went on an international trip.

It was called Eurosteps, and it was an experience i will never forget.

For the last two weeks of August 2002, I went on a trip known as Eurosteps. This is where with a group, you plan a trip for somewhere in Europe. My group chose to go for two weeks staying in Spain, Switzerland and Poland.

To be selected for one of these trips is a tough experience. First of all i went on a county selection weekend. It took me three selection weekends before i was finally chosen to go through to region selection. This was also tough, but once i was through that i was put into a group of eight girls, all about 17 years old.

we got together for a weekend to meet each other and we seemed to bond quite well. We met up for a second time to practise putting up the tent, but we didnt bring it!! One girl dropped out, and we started planning.

We chose to take the plane to Barcelona in Spain, get on the coach to our campsite in Griebal, and stay there for a few days. Then we would get the plane from Barcelona to Geneva in Switzerland and take the train to Kandersteg International Scout Centre, and while there visit Our Chalet, one of the four Guide world centres. We would then travel to Poland, through Germany, and have a morning in Berlin. We would stay at Funka in Poland for a few days, then take the train to Amsterdam in Holland, visit some sites and then fly back to England.

Whilst in Spain, I helped to lay paths and also to strip tree trunks. This was very tough as it was really hot and I got really burnt. Also in Spain I visited the local town of Ainsa and did a little bit of shopping.

Whilst in Switzerland, we visited Our Chalet which was really good. There were people of many nationalities.

Whilst in Poland, we did some Macrame, pottery, sailing and canoeing.

Before returning home we travelled to Holland and there we had a trip down the canal and also visited a very interesting museum.

I had a great time on Eurosteps and I would certainly reccommend it to anyone.

If you are in Guiding, ask your Guider when the next international selection weekend is.
